By 2024, however, much of the world has learned to live with Covid but struggled to cope with its financial fallout. We still suffer from supply chain disruptions, a chronic shortage of key workers, and creeping inflation threatening to unsettle the global economy. And that doesn't even include the effects of Global Warming, associated climatic effects...

Joining An MLM Does Not Make You A 'Small Business Owner' - HuffPost

Jamie Smith of Portland, Oregon, joined the multilevel marketing company doTerra in 2014. She was working as full-time massage therapist and holistic health coach at the time, and had also launched a line of her own body care essential oil products. She was struggling with her business and rethinking her career ― that is, until she was introduced to doTerra by a friend. "She really pitched me on the business and making X amount of money per month," Smith said. "I was definitely in a financial need. I was also a new mom … the typical targeted, vulnerable person ." As an MLM, doTerra hires "wellness consultants" to sell its products ( essential oils , in this case) and to recruit new members to work underneath them for the company. Like most other MLMs, the opportunity is presented as a chance to start " your business " and "live the life you want." It seemed like a great opportunity to Smith. She could sell ready-m...

Illegal pyramid schemes are on the rise during the pandemic - The Washington Post

It's hard not to be sold on the altruistic and cultural backstory of the sou-sou, also known as "Susu," "blessing loom" or "gifting circle." Promoters pitch the sou-sou as a common practice among Caribbean and African immigrants as a way to help their businesses grow. Briscoe was told she would be helping other Black folks, some of whom may have lost their jobs because of the coronavirus. "It seemed like it was legal," said the Maryland resident, who reached out to me as part of her due diligence research. "I didn't want to bring anybody in unless I knew for sure, because I didn't want anybody to lose their money." For the past several weeks, members of my church, friends, neighbors and readers have asked me about the legitimacy of a "sou-sou" or similar schemes, in which they are promised that if they put up $100 in some cases, or $500 in others, in a month or two they would get a return eight times ...

MLM companies continue their hot streak - Natural Products INSIDER

Direct selling companies in the health and wellness sector have been on a tear since the pandemic gripped the globe in 2020, and their sales momentum seemingly has carried over into 2021. First-quarter results for many of the publicly traded multilevel marketers (MLMs) were similarly stellar to their 2020 numbers, with many breaking decades-old records for growth. Direct sellers reporting record revenue in the first quarter of 2021 include Herbalife Nutrition Ltd. (NYSE: HLF), Nature's Sunshine (Nasdaq: NATR), Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. (NYSE: NUS), and Medifast Inc. (NYSE: MED). The pandemic—and its resulting consumer focus on health and wellness, as well as the market's reliance on home-based buying and services—clearly benefitted the bottom lines of many multilevel marketing companies. Herbalife cited increased demand for its nutrition products, as well as new consumer-facing technology used by the company's independent distributors to interact with their customers...
