FBI Phoenix Reminding The Public Of SIM Swapping Scammers - KAFF News

FBI Phoenix is educating Arizona residents of the dangers of Subscriber Identity Module swapping done by criminals to steal money from virtual accounts. Criminals often find a victim with large amounts of digital currency and get their phone number and carrier. They are then able to get the victim's phone number to a SIM card and phone in the criminal's possession. After having control of the victim's information, they will change all passwords to lock the victim out, and steal money virtually. The FBI would like to remind the public to protect your personal and financial information, use strong multi-factor authentication methods, and do not store passwords or usernames that will be easily accessible. If you or someone you know is a victim of SIM swapping, contact your mobile carrier to get all passwords changed, then call your local law enforcement agency.
