Seven Easy Ways to Earn Money When You're a Student · Student Edge News - Student Edge

Side hustles that stack the cash.

As a student there are times when you need some extra money, 'cos who doesn't like having a little more cash to flash?

Whether you've got an unexpected bill to pay or need to fork out some coin for the new PlayStation 5, you're gonna need to raise the money somehow.

To help you out—even if you've already got a casual job—here are seven easy ways to earn extra dollars when you're a student.

1. Babysitting

It might sound old school, but babysitting is a great way to get some cash in hand if you love kids.

Most babysitters earn between $20 and $30 an hour, plus (depending on the parents) you might even score a free meal too.

Word-of-mouth referrals are usually the way to go, but apps like Sittr are great for gigs as well.

Make sure before you start babysitting you get your Working with Children Check, which you can find more information about here.

2. Tutoring

Have you got a killer understanding of high school subjects? Then it might be time to monetise it.

Private tutors for maths, science, English and even art are always in demand and depending on your experience and expertise, you can charge upwards of $30 an hour.

Best thing is it can now be done online too, so you don't even have to leave the house.

Advertise your skills online at Tutors Field or superprof, register with an agency like LearnMate, or even make a flyer and chuck it on the noticeboard of some local schools.

3. Sell your unused clothes.

Time for a reality check: there are clothes in your wardrobe that you are never going to wear again.

Though they aren't your vibe anymore, they could be someone else's. Time to give them a good wash and throw them up on Facebook Marketplace.

You might not get heaps of money for them, but you'll be surprised at how much you can make. Plus, wearing secondhand clothes is a great choice for the environment.

4. Online surveys.

Can you believe people will pay for your opinion? Better still, we'll pay for your opinion!

Each survey you complete on Student Edge earns you Edge Credits, which you can redeem for cash (via PayPal) or gift cards. Plus, you'll be entered into our quarterly prize draw with $1,000 in prizes.

How easy is that? You can find out everything you need to know about Student Edge surveys here.

5. Photography

If photography is your passion, then there are plenty of ways to make some coin out of your snaps.

Design apps like Canva will pay you for your best landscape photos based on how many times it gets used.

You can even advertise your photography skills online or offer friends and family a discounted rate for a photoshoot.

Otherwise, get some prints made of your favourite shots, slap a price and name on them, and ask a local café to hang it on their wall. Someone is bound to buy one.

6. Dog walking.

If you'd rather spend your time with cute doggos than people, why not make a quick buck for something you love?

Pet walking is super easy and pays over $20 per hour. Plus add a couple more bucks if they have two dogs because that's double the work.

Make up some flyers and do a letterbox drop around your neighbourhood to build up some clients, and then you're away.

7. Etsy

Do you consider yourself an artist? Well people will pay good money for that on Etsy.

Here you can sell your artwork, homemade jewellery, restored clothing or anything else you made by hand.

It really is a craftsperson's dream.

Handy tip: For some of these side hustles you may need an Australian Business Number (ABN), so check this page out for all the details.

There you have it: seven easy ways to make money when you're a student. Time to stop reading and start setting one of these up (or all of them you mad dog) and earn some extra money.
