Multi-level marketing is where a person earns money by promoting and selling products, but also by recruiting others to sell, too. These schemes are legal because a product is being sold, unlike pyramid schemes which simply rely on new recruits paying to join. ADDS China MOFA reax Canada on Monday warned of a "Spamouflage" disinformation campaign linked to China that used waves of online posts and deepfake videos manipulated to try to disparage and discredit Canadian lawmakers. The Global Affairs department said in a statement it had "detected a 'Spamouflage' campaign connected to the People's Republic of China." The operators of a "blessing loom" investment program that targeted African Americans and people struggling financially during the Covid-19 pandemic are banned from the business of multi-level marketing   as a result of enforcement actions taken by the Federal Trade Commission and the State of Arkansas alleging the operation of an illegal pyramid scheme.
