The Securities and Exchange Commission brought charges against Xue Samuel Lee, the co-founder of HyperFund, and Brenda Indah Chunga, also known as "Bitcoin Beautee," the fund's top promoter, for securities violations.[1]  Additionally, the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland brought criminal charges against Lee for allegedly co-founding the fund,[2] and conspiracy charges against Chunga and Rodney Burton, a/k/a "Bitcoin Rodney,"[3] for their roles as alleged promoters of the fund.[4]  These three individuals face a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison.  The SEC alleges that for almost two years, from January 2020 until November 2022, Lee conducted a $1.7 billion Ponzi and pyramid scheme on a global scale.  Lee initially launched HyperCapital in January 2022 as a decentralized finance ecosystem, only to relaunch it six months later as HyperFund.  This would become a pattern thr

Your Local Nutrition Shake Shop May Not Be What You Think It Is - Office for Science and Society

The woman swears to me that she is not part of Herbalife, and I believe her. But given the looks of her juice shop, you could easily mistake it for an Herbalife nutrition club when you know what to look for. In fact, the resemblance is so striking, Herbalife representatives have repeatedly visited her establishment. She tells me they wondered if she was selling their products and not reporting her sales to the company. After all, she offers teas, protein shakes, and vitamin juices. It could very well have discreet ties to Herbalife, but it does not. These "clubs," as they are called, are likely to be in your neighbourhood. They are not retail stores or restaurants, and no Herbalife sign or product can be visible from the outside. The clubs are not clones of each other; instead, they rhyme. They have the word "nutrition" in the name, like Beyond Nutrition and Iconic Nutrition; stickers with their logo, often printed on a black circle, can be seen on their disposable

Martin Marietta Materials (MLM) Outperformed on Strong Pricing Power - Yahoo Finance

The London Company, an investment management company, released "The London Company Large Cap Strategy" fourth quarter 2023 investor letter. A copy of the same can be downloaded here. The fund gained 7.6% (7.5%, net) during the quarter compared to a 12% rise in the Russell 1000 Index. Headwinds from stock selection and sector exposure led the fund to underperform in Q4. The Large Cap portfolio underperformed its benchmark in 4Q, falling short of 85-90% upside capture estimates. As was the case throughout the year, a lack of exposure to high volatility and growth factors, as well as an overexposure to quality factors, acted as headwinds. In addition, you can check the top 5 holdings of the fund to know its best picks in 2023. The London Company Large Cap Strategy featured stocks such as Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) in the fourth quarter 2023 investor letter. Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) is a natural

New gold scam shows investors never learn - The Edge Malaysia

Image
ON Feb 2, more than 100 investors in a gold investment scheme filed a police report in Singapore, claiming that they had not received their promised returns for five months and that the bosses of the company involved had gone missing. They had participated in a gold buyback scheme with Suisse International Pte Ltd and were promised a monthly return of about 25%. But since September last year, according to news reports in Singapore, they have not been receiving their monthly payouts. And more recently, the people in charge of the scheme could not be contacted. Among this group of investors, who claimed they represent 250 people with gold investments in Suisse International totalling S$35 million (RM87 million), were those who had bought gold from financially troubled Genneva Gold and were eager to sell their holdings.  The offices of Genneva Gold, which had operated a gold investment scheme in Singapore and Malaysia, were raided by the Commercial Affairs De

‘The fact they emailed you and you don’t even work for them’: TikToker says Monat asked her to delete a video making fun of its ‘pyramid scheme’ - The Daily Dot

This week in PR fiascos, the multi-level marketing company Monat apparently made a big mistake on TikTok. Like many MLMs, Monat—a company selling haircare products—is often described as a predatory pyramid scheme. It's also faced class-action lawsuits for marketing allegedly dangerous products, and been accused of leveraging COVID-19 anxieties for profit. In other words, Monat's brand is pretty toxic—which explains the weird email they sent to TikToker @hattie_rowe, asking her to take down one of her videos. With 82,000 followers on TikTok, @hattie-rowe specializes in anti-MLM content, targeting specific brands for mockery and/or debunk videos. Last November she posted a duet with a Monat representative doing the company's signature dance, writing, "I learnt Monat's pyramid scheme cult dance to summon new GirlBosses to my team." Her TikTok caption reads, "who's ready to earn an extra income in exchange for your f
